Lithium ion battery, commonly known as "lithium electricity", is the battery system with the best comprehensive performance. The anode of a lithium-ion battery is a carbon material, such as graphite. The positive electrode is a transition metal oxide containing lithium, such as LiMn2O4.
(1) Advantages of lithium ion batteries:
(2) High working voltage. The working voltage of lithium ion battery is 3.7V, which is three times that of nickel-cadmium and nickel-hydrogen batteries.
(3) Higher than energy. The specific energy of lithium-ion battery has reached 140Wh/kg, which is 3 times of nickel-cadmium battery and 1.5 times of nickel-hydrogen battery.
(4) Long cycle life. Lithium ion battery cycle life has reached more than 1000 times, can reach tens of thousands of times at low discharge depth, more than other kinds of secondary batteries.
(5) small self-discharge. The monthly self-discharge rate of li-ion battery is only 6%-8%, which is much lower than that of ni-Cd battery (25%-30%) and ni-MH battery (30%-40%).
(6) No memory effect. It can be recharged on demand without degrading battery performance.
(7) No pollution to the environment. Lithium-ion batteries are green batteries without harmful substances.
Lithium polymer battery
Lithium polymer batteries are a newer generation of batteries that entered the market in large numbers in 1999. Lithium-polymer batteries are basically the same as lithium-ion batteries except that the electrolyte is a solid polymer rather than a liquid electrolyte.
Polymer electrolyte materials are ordinary films composed of solutes in which the oxide of the main polymer, such as polyethylene, acts as a stationary solvent. Lithium-polymer batteries can be made of any shape and are relatively light because they contain no heavy metals and have a plastic casing to keep electrolytes in. Their performance is better, and the ideal lithium polymer battery has a capacity of several thousand mA⋅h, and is safer. The solid electrolyte acts like a sealing gel and does not easily spontaneously combcombate during charging.
A comparison of the two batteries
Both li-polymer battery and li-ion battery technology can replace Ni-Gd battery. But the price is too high for the market to fully accept, especially lithium polymer technology. Lithium-polymer batteries have more capacity than lithium-ion batteries in the same volume, and no memory effect at all (lithium-ion batteries do have a memory effect, just a smaller one). Lithium-polymer batteries are a gelatinous substance that can be easily shaped. And does not contain harmful heavy metal elements, is a "green battery"
